The Toronto Black Film Festival #TBFF16, presented by Global News in collaboration with TD Bank, is proud to kick start its 4th edition with the award-winning South African film Thina Sobabili (The Two of Us), by Ernest Nkosi. The film will be presented as an Ontario Premiere at 7:30PM on Tuesday, February 10 at Isabel Bader Theatre (93 Charles Street W) – hosted by the acclaimed director.  Thina Sobabili (The Two of Us) served as South Africa’s submission to the 88th Annual Academy Awards® Best Foreign Language Film Category; and was also South Africa’s choice to the 73rd Golden Globes awards 2016.

“We are very proud to open #TBFF16 with such a powerful film,” said Fabienne Colas, President and Founder of TBFF. “Through its uncompromising dedication to exploring the lives of young people in the Townships, Thina Sobabili encompasses what the festival is all about.”

Directed by Ernest Nkosi, Thina Sobabili (The Two of Us) is a coming-of-age story that follows young siblings Thulani and Zanele, whose relationship is strained when Zanele falls for an older man and plans to use him to escape her bleak surroundings. The film won the Best Picture Award at the Rwanda Film Festival, and Audience awards at the Jozi Film Festival and the Pan African Film festival.
