AKEBO
By Donne Ngabo
"Akebo" begins with Elizabeth, who after tolerating her troublesome school friends once again, is having difficulties sleeping. When her mother feels this, she illuminates her dilemma with wisdom from a Rwandan parable. Concurrently, we follow a familiar experience, following a desperate Uwineza returning home from an eventful day of job interviews. Upon arriving, she is reminded that three months have passed without her paying rent. She learns she can no longer delay her eviction, income is paramount. Uwineza believes her naivety is her shortcoming, but the homeowner and her friend Theogene believes her kindness is the summit of her character.
