Legendary Hollywood actress Pam Grier to be honoured at the 2024 Toronto Black Film Festival #TBFF24!

Hailed as the Queen of Blaxploitation and the first female action hero, Pam Grier is a consummate screen actress who has contributed to spark not one, but multiple eras in American Black cinema.

Her incendiary performances in iconic roles came at pivotal moments in the industry for both Black representation and representation of women on screen. Grier’s leading roles in films like Coffy (1973) and Jackie Brown (1997) emerged as milestones that signaled the untapped potential of Black women in film and raised critical questions around casting decisions and recognition.

Pam Grier’s trailblazing career embodies the Black actress’s journey toward artistic fulfillment. She has paved the way for others and provided bold inspiration and impetus for the industry to be more inclusive. Our festival rides the wave of her legacy, and we proudly pay tribute to her.

The 2024 Toronto Black Film Festival's Career Achievement Award recognizes Grier's enduring contributions, not only as a captivating actress but also as a pioneer who has shattered barriers for women and African American performers in the industry. The ceremony will celebrate Grier's impact on the film industry and delve into an inspirational journey that has influenced generations.

She is also the president and founder of the Fabienne Colas Foundation as well as the Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Calgary, Ottawa and Vancouver Black Film Festivals.
