Who are we
Bold, independent, local yet international, a little provocative and always eye-opening, the Toronto Black Film Festival (TBFF) is all about discovery. Celebrating Black History Month, TBFF showcases powerful Black films that entertain, challenge conventions, spark debate and offer audiences new ways of seeing the world.
Rooted in Toronto, one of the world’s most culturally diverse cities, TBFF reflects the energy, creativity and character of the city itself. The Festival celebrates the richness of Toronto’s Black communities while connecting local audiences with remarkable stories from across Canada and around the globe. Dynamic, refreshing and unapologetically audacious, TBFF champions emerging and established filmmakers, supports local talent and helps strengthen Toronto’s independent film industry.
Through films that matter, lively conversations, industry programming and community engagement, TBFF isn’t afraid to tackle important cultural, social and economic issues. It celebrates the diversity of Black experiences, challenges assumptions and brings people of all backgrounds together. After all, great cinema doesn’t just entertain. It can make us laugh, question what we think we know, see things differently and perhaps even change our minds.
Created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation (FCF), the Toronto Black Film Festival is part of a national network of Black film festivals in Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. As part of Canada’s largest Black-led cultural organization, TBFF brings Toronto’s distinctive voice to a larger national and international stage, creating opportunities for filmmakers, connecting communities and making sure great Black stories get the attention they deserve.
