AGWE

By Ina Sotirova

On the morning of the rare Purple Moon ceremony, a young priestess awakens from a disturbing dream reenacting the fateful slave shipwreck that brought her ancestors to the Caribbean island of Ileti Igbala (Land of Salvation in Yoruba). Recognizing the bad omen, Agwe tries to warn the Council of Priestesses that governs her matriarchal tribe, but the leader, Iya, dismisses her as a child merely plagued by the collective memory of the past. Agwe chooses to defy tradition and go in search of answers on her own. That night, at the height of the ceremony, as danger looms over the island, Agwe must overcome her insecurities and step into her power in order to save her world.
